The late Queen’s chef of 15 years, Darren McGrady, says that once the family returned from church on Christmas Day, he would always serve a classic Christmas lunch including a ‘salad with shrimp or lobster, a roasted turkey, and all the traditional side dishes like roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots and Christmas pudding with brandy butter for dessert’.
‘The pudding was turned out from its basin, decorated in holly, doused in brandy and then carried, flaming, by the palace steward into the royal dining room,’ says Darren. ‘It was so traditional.’
Assuming you don’t have a palace steward or royal dining room, you can still enjoy the Christmas pudding!
