It was 1973, and Mr. Field, my Grade 3-4 teacher, had assigned us a task. Being in Grade 4, I finished the task quickly and afterwards disrupted some mates. Mr. Field said, “Hartnett have you finished?” I replied, “yes”, and he called me to his desk and said, “here is some money. Go over to the Milk Bar and buy me a Coke and a packet of snakes. Keep the change.”
So, off I wandered out of the school gates to the corner Milk Bar (remember those) and bought Coke, the Snakes and with the change I purchased the most popular newspaper in the Hartnett household (outside of motorcycle publications) the Trading Post.
