If there’s one thing the past year has brought into sharp relief, it’s how much first responders put on the line every day for our safety and security. They’re a comfort and quite literally a lifeline, especially in times like these. It’s no secret that fire-rescue professionals are mostly men, due largely to the grueling, physical nature of the work. But I’m a firm believer in women’s ability to do anything, so when I heard about Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue’s female firefighters/EMTs, I thought it was double cause for celebration: a thanks to the individuals who keep us all safe, and a tip of the hat to the ceiling breakers who smash traditional roles and set precedents for all women. This past winter, milliner Teressa Foglia visited Palm Beach for the first time and fell in love. On the lawn outside The Colony Hotel, she took private appointments during a mad-hatterthemed trunk show for her eponymous brand. Alongside her partner, Tyler Hays Wild, Foglia has made her mark with custom-tailored hats. She now counts celebrities such as Cindy Crawford and Gerard Butler among her clientele. When it comes to sugar, many people feel out of control. The good news? It’s not your fault. Proven to be highly addictive, sugar floods the brain with so much dopamine (the pleasure hormone) that we can’t help ourselves but to overeat and keep coming back for more. In his younger years, Brinsley Matthews studied in Dublin, immersed in courses on art and antiques at Trinity College and Earlsfort Terrace. When interior designer Bruce Bierman first walked into the penthouse apartment at 529 South Flagler in West Palm Beach, he very nearly made an about-face and walked right back out again.
