In your opinion, what makes a landscape photograph ‘atmospheric’?
Although it’s not always completely necessary, the most obvious answer is fog and mist; literally, that’s a visible atmosphere. At least, that’s what I try to seek out when I create my atmospheric photos.
What do you look for when capturing atmospheric landscapes?
Besides fog and mist, I generally try to always include a subject or another anchor or focal point, and use the different compositional tools where it makes sense. I also seek out woodlands and forests especially, as these are relatively dense scenes in regard to the information they contain, such as trees, plants and other elements.
