1 Super-telephoto lens
A big telephoto lens is absolutely essential for getting close-ups of fast-moving aircraft. Philip uses the high-end Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM – its high-speed focusing enables it to lock onto fast-moving aircraft with unerring accuracy. If, like most of us, you can’t stretch to the high asking price for that lens, a slower lens, such as Steve’s Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG HSM OS, will do the job almost as well.
2 Zoom lenses
“In addition to my monster 400mm, 2 I use a Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L USM, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, and EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM,” reveals Philip. “Between them they cover every focal length I could wish for, with an unbeatable combination of autofocus speed, image quality and flexibility.”
