Hurtling off the road, the Volkswagen van crashed into two pine trees. Inside it were two young men, apparently not wearing seatbelts. They were both thrown from the car, through the windscreen, and towards the trees. Both died instantly from major head injuries. It was the afternoon of 26 June 1995, in Virginia, America. One of the victims - the driver of the van, student Michael Eric Hager, 21 - reportedly had fallen asleep at the wheel. He was carrying ID, so could be quickly identified. I knew I’d done wrong if I had a smacked hand. It taught me right from wrong, and I am respectful,  and grew up knowing how to behave. Do I smack my own children? No. Does this mean they’re less respectful than those who are smacked? No. Time outs and privileges revoked worked just as well.
