‘The best olive oil is the handcrafted one,’ says Goran Morović, the civil engineer and olive oil connoisseur who, together with his wife Nives, are the visionary couple behind Croatia’s most luxurious boutique hotel, Villa Nai 3.3, and its world famous olive oil.
The word “nai” means snow in Dalmatic, and the number 3.3 signifies the average annual days of snowfall the island historically had, according to national records. However, snow no longer falls on Dugi Otok, which challenges traditional organic farming practices. Despite this, the name “nai” represents the quality of the olive oil produced here – it is as high as if the snow had fallen – maintaining its purity and organic standards.
