THE A15 RUNS north from Peterborough, in Cambridgeshire, following a fairly straight line through Lincolnshire via Market Deeping, Bourne, Sleaford and Lincoln.
Much of the route follows that of the Roman road, Ermine Street, before it is interrupted at its junction with the M180 near Scawby.
The road restarts 10 miles (16km) east, continues north past Barton-upon-Humber, crossing the Humber Bridge (before the bridge was built, crossing the river meant a ferry trip) and terminating at Hessle, near Hull.
Historic route
The route is 95 miles (153km) long, and driving it takes around 2.5 hours. A section of the A15, between Scampton and the M180, provides the longest stretch of straight road in the UK.
