Sometimes a bit of creative thinking is necessary. In one case, the meter and the case were all that remained, and in the second, I converted a battery charger into a useful power supply for the bench. It will supply 4-30 volts at up to 3 amps, but not simultaneously! Both projects also coincidentally used the LM 2596 module, which is very affordable at about £2.50 online. This contains a SMPS, rectifiers and a voltage regulator, all in one chip. Unfortunately, we don’t always have the luxury of all parts being available. In these two power supplies, that was the case.
