Sure, olive oil is great, but it’s time to show another lipid some love. A new study finds that people with higher blood levels of linoleic acid—a fat found in grapeseed, but not olive, oil—have less body fat around their organs, less inflammation, and more lean body mass. While we used to get plenty of linoleic acid from soybean, safflower, and sunflower oils, cheap processing has reduced healthy fat levels. Today, grapeseed is one of the few food sources of linoleic acid, with about 80%. The oil’s slightly nutty flavor is great for stir-fries, sautés, and homemade dressings. Opt for expeller- and cold-pressed oil for the best quality.
