If you value fabric, you want to use it efficiently—to waste as little as possible. Whether you're a rank beginner or a seasoned veteran, consider these ideas for making the best use of your fabric. First, the obvious: you know the suggestion to “please read the pattern all the way through before beginning”? That's really important! It gives you an overview of the process and makes you aware of the pattern's peculiarities. So do read through any pattern before you begin. It's well worth the time and it may save some fabric. When you begin a patchwork project, it's advisable to cut and sew a block or other small portion before cutting out the entire project. Getting Started About our Patterns We recommend that you read all of the instructions before starting a project and that you cut and sew one block before cutting all of your fabric. Using a rotary cutter, mat and an acrylic ruler, cut the shape to the size indicated in the cutting list. Pressing tabs indicate the direction to press the seam allowances.
