German auto maker, Audi, has confirmed Swiss driver, Neel Jani, as its simulator driver for its new Formula 1 car that is expected to race from 2026.
The 39-year old, who has long driven in endurance racing, notably for Porsche in the LMP1 919, will be the lead driver on the simulator for the powertrain.
‘Just like in production development, simulation plays a major role in our Formula 1 project,’ says Oliver Hoffmann, member of the board of management for technical development Audi AG. ‘It requires a development driver who, in addition to a grasp of technology, brings versatile experience to the project, especially in terms of energy management in racing conditions.’
