DAYLIGHT’S END ALEX KAHN « ORLANDO, FL Alex has a passion for horror movie cars, especially those featuring Mopar muscle. After submitting his Phantasm Cuda for RCCA’s December 2019 issue, he tackled a more complex build—the ’70 Road Runner from the post-apocalyptic vampire film “Daylight’s End.” The chassis is a mostly stock Redcat Racing Lightning EPX drift car, but the body is a heavily modified toy-grade Nikko Plymouth Superbird. For the fabrication, Alex enlisted Billy C. LeWorth, who started by chopping off the Superbird’s nose cone and giant rear wing to create the Road Runner’s correct silhouette. From there, Billy scratch-built the grille, headlights, and front fascia with impressive accuracy. For us, creating a 1/10-scale replica of a real-life rig is one of the most rewarding projects in the RC crawling hobby. The goal is to capture the essence of a full-sized vehicle down to the finest details. Our latest “mini-me” project is a scale replica of John Pangilinan’s custom Ford Bronco, which we built using a Traxxas TRX-4 Ford Bronco RTR as the foundation. The TRX-4 Ford Bronco is an excellent base for this type of build thanks to its highly detailed body, portal axles, and solid performance on the trail. However, to make it a true mini-me of John’s Bronco, we had to go beyond the stock configuration.
