Launched in 1968, Grand Seiko’s original Hi-Beat model, the GS61, was Japan’s first automatic 10-beat calibre, achieving incredible accuracy and offering superior shock resistance. Forty years later, in 2009, calibre 9S85 opened a new chapter in Grand Seiko’s high-beat watches, incorporating a new Spron alloy mainspring, which provided 50 per cent more torque, allowing 36,000 vph and a 55-hour power reserve.
Then in 2014, Grand Seiko introduced its first Hi-Beat GMT, combining one of the most genuinely useful complications – a second time zone – with an accurate high frequency movement to create one…
