The last time Cardiff contended in the URC, or any of its other iterations, was way back in 2007-08 when they finished second in the old Celtic League. Since then, it’s been pure mediocrity – or worse.
They’re the largest of the Welsh teams, with the biggest catchment area of clubs, and yet they haven’t figured. They hit the headlines for the wrong reasons, such as last season’s brief spell in administration, whereupon the WRU took control.
