“It speaks quite a lot to who we were, what it was we were trying to achieve – the kind of attitude we had to it all at the time, and the amount of graft that we were putting in.” Often placed behind the rest of the band, drummers have a unique perspective, looking out into the horizons, the backs of their bandmates silhouetted against stage lights. So, should they turn to photography, it seems natural that they should look at things a little differently. Dave Rowntree, the multidisciplinary artist, lawyer, writer, computer programmer and activist, known to most as the drummer from English rock band Blur, has added photographer to his ever-growing résumé and published No One You Know, a photography book documenting Blur’s early years.
