After building our confidence with coastal trips along the south coast, we wanted to venture further afield, and our thoughts turned to the Channel Islands. This would be our first trip across the English Channel, and the first time we would lose sight of land. There was plenty to challenge our skills – shipping lanes on the way, strong currents around the islands, large tidal ranges, eddies, and a chart full of rocks. A little daunting for a couple of novices, but with promises of stunning beaches, dramatic coastlines, and a warmer climate, we were ready for the adventure.
