Tucked into a bend of the winding River Lossie in Moray, is the town of Elgin. On the large side as Scottish towns go, it was once a Royal Burgh, complete with a motte and bailey castle and a Cathedral City.
What remains, other than not much of the 13th-century cathedral and 12th-century castle (both now in ruin), is something that has far outlasted the material wealth and prestige the town once had: its heritage.
