Life is such a funny adventure at times, isn’t it? Last issue I bid you farewell: this issue I’m back! While I am still pursuing my own new adventure, I am so pleased to be invited by the new publisher, Woodlands Publishing, to come back onboard as the Editor-at-large of Scrapbooking Memories. I would have to say that pattern paper is the first ingredient in almost all of my scrapbook layouts. It is very often my starting point for a design or layout idea and provides me with lots of inspiration, whether that be colour combinations or images and themes. This month, I go about creating 3 different layouts using 3 different techniques all using the one pattern paper. The paper I have chosen to use is called Life is Good by Fancy Pants. It is a bold print from their Happy Place collection. I like it as it has a distinct bold leaf pattern with similar repeating shapes; perfect for the techniques I had in mind. Scrapbooking is about the photos, about the memory keeping and about recording our lives & story. We quite often get so tied up in covering our page in all the beautiful embellishments, mediums, stamps and papers that we forget that it’s all about the photo and making the photo look amazing on the page. With the addition of mixed media, our pages can get overloaded and messy and the photos can disappear. I–and many others– love it when paper craft brands release new products and collections which I simply must purchase to add to my collections. But while you might invest the money in all of these extra products, you may not realise just how versatile each collection could be! I love thinking outside the box with my scrapbooking. Themed collections for Christmas or other special holidays have never been my favourite thing to buy however I do love the challenge of using certain products for something that, at first glance, I would not normally use them for. I never quite know what the end result of these creations is going to be. I honestly think that is what draws me to make these oddly designed pages in the first place. All I know is that when I start out, I want the end result to be something different to what I would normally create. So this is exactly where I begin. Somewhere I wouldn’t.
