COMPANY NEWS
Maersk, owner of the well-known Hamburg-Süd brand, has announced that the brand will be replaced, along with its distinctive red-hulled vessels. Along with the former German company, other brands within the Maersk Group, including Sealand, which has been used for European and Asian feeder services, will all be taken under the Maersk brand.
In a statement made by the Danish container line, ranked second largest in the world, the creation of a single entity will enable the company to better respond to logistics needs, offering customers better connectivity. Founded in 1871, the Hamburg-based company saw its first container ship, Columbus New Zealand, enter service in 1971, being sold by the Oetker Group to AP Moller-Maersk in 2017.
