The Leather and Hide Council of America (LHCA) has pledged its support to the Congressional Slow Fashion Caucus. The caucus, founded by district of Maine congresswoman Chellie Pingree, Washington district’s Marie Gluesenkamp Perez and California’s Sydney Kamlager-Dove is working towards “climate-smart politics to reduce, repair, re-wear and recycle textiles.” Together, their goal is to curb waste and pollution from the fast fashion industry, making it the first US caucus dedicated to such a mission. The annual Pendleton Leather Show wound up being a big one. Held in early November, in Pendleton, Oregon, the meetup featured sold-out vendor booths, a healthy increase in attendance at classes, the industry’s best awards packages for competition winners and a Friday Fun social that included food, live music, and the first-ever Leather Games. Misty Shaw, co-owner of Utah-based Burns Cowboy Shop, which finalized the acquisition of the show in 2020, said incremental improvements to Pendleton’s overall format and offerings have resulted in a complete restoration of the Pacific Northwest’s signature leather-crafts event.
