Imagine a crochet stitch that’s 3D, easy to hook, wonderfully strokable, and can be any length… that’s bullion stitch! They’re a bit like embroidered bullion stitches, or puff stitches on their side, so they’re perfect for adding touchable texture to your crochet fabrics. ROLL WITH IT Also called roll stitch, bullion stitch involves making several yrh at the start and later pulling another loop through this coil of yarn loops. You can make the stitches any length you like, just by changing the number of yrh you work at the start. Most crochet patterns state the tension required, in rows and stitches of a specific type. Make a swatch at least 15cm square and check that your tension matches. Place a ruler across the swatch and insert two pins, 10cm apart. Then place the ruler along a column of stitches and insert two pins 10cm apart. Count the stitches and rows between the pins – if you have less than the pattern, your tension is too loose so you need to use a smaller hook, but if you have too many, use a larger hook.
