Sometimes when friends introduce me to new people, they will say, with varying degrees of enthusiasm, “Oh, Emma crochets. You should see what she makes.” Often, in the past, the poor unsuspecting person would look uncomfortable and, floundering for a follow-up question, say something like, “Do you… do much of that?” However, in recent times, these conversations have started to improve – I find there has been more of a genuine interest in craft, and a growing number of people want to rekindle skills they acquired in childhood or teach their children a technique that may have skipped a generation.
