HOLDING THE HOOK Try these methods and see which works best. PENCIL METHOD Hold the hook like a pencil, in your right hand (if you’re right-handed), about 3-5cm from the hooked end. If your hook has a flat area, you’ll find it comfortable to hold it here. This amigurumi toy was one of the first crochet items I ever designed. If I had to choose a favourite project, one which makes me happy and inspires me to continue designing crochet patterns, it would have to be Sartù the Lemur. When I took my first steps in designing my own crochet toys, I didn’t know if I was able to design interesting characters, write patterns, or take good enough pictures. However, when I saw Sartù’s yellow eyes, I convinced myself I could try! To me, he looked as cute as some amigurumi by other designers, but in his own way he was also pretty weird and I loved that.
