Here is a photo of one of your past patterns, that I've knitted for my grandson Freddie. I found I was daunted when the pattern instructed to knit the collar and armbands then graft them onto the body, so instead I joined the right shoulder, picked up stitches for the neckband, joined the other shoulder and neck seam, then picked up stitches for armbands. As you'll see it seems to have worked okay. I couldn't get the special buttons so used some yellow buttons I had in my stash. I'm hoping to knit this design for my younger grandson Finlay one day. STAR LETTER BAG A BARGAIN I thought the money-saving tips in issue 227 were really helpful. Another good way to save is to see if there's a Scrap Store in your area. I use the Cone Exchange, which is full of craft delights. The items for sale are donated by individuals and businesses and money from sales goes to supporting local charities. I have been able to buy yarn in single balls or packs at bargain prices. This is a great help especially as I knit for charity, including making hats for a refugee project the Cone Exchange are supporting. I also shop at my LYS when I need specific yarn for a project, so it's great all round. I often make toys and children's items which are ideal for…

My third great-grandson was born on 14 July 2022 and I thought to make him a pair of bootees the same as those I'd made for a grandson more than 10 years ago. However, I couldn't find the pattern. Babies were dying of cold in the refugee camps and we initially sent emergency aid, including knitted items, to alleviate suffering and spread God's word. Financial support is now sent to the church in Rwanda and Uganda for various projects alongside an ever-growing Child Sponsorship scheme. We also collect knitted/crochet items to be sent to orphanages and those in need in Eastern Europe. Whilst the charity aims to promote the Christian faith, our support is available to those of all faiths or none. What can knitters do to help?
