SIMPLE SUBSTITUTION Q I always get in a muddle when substituting yarns. Can you help? Substituting wool or a wool blend when a cotton was used, for example, can alter the clarity of stitch and the drape, and a pattern using cables can draw in more when a more elastic yarn is used. If a tea cosy's not your cup of tea (pun absolutely intended), you can use the piggy pattern to make Christmas tree decorations instead. You just need to place the snout and eyes on the side of the body where the shaping starts for the head, rather than at the top on the drawn-up cast-off. Make the blanket in the same way as the pattern states, using the first five squares of the top two strips, and pin and sew it into place around your pig, starting and finishing just under it's snout and allowing the tail to poke under the bottom. Popular wrestling entertainment company WWE were returning to the UK for their biggest show in 30 years and this year the event was going to be held in Cardiff, Wales. In order to promote the Welsh event around the world, they contacted local crafter Charlotte Peacock to create a jumper and title celebrating Wales, wool and wrestling for the occasion. The jumper was created with the help of nine Welsh crafters, all doing a few squares or parts of the title. The squares were: Cardiff Castle, a Welsh Love Spoon, the Welsh Flag, a wrestling ring and the title belt.
