SUGAR COOKIE STARS
These classic cutout cookies can be sprinkled with sugar before baking, or bake them plain and decorate with icing and toppings for holiday festivity.

1 cup unsalted butter, softened2 cups confectioners’ sugar1 large egg1½ teaspoons vanilla extract½ teaspoon almond extract3¼ cups all-purpose flour2 teaspoons baking powder1 teaspoon kosher saltRoyal Icing (recipe follows), holiday sprinkles, nonpareils, and sparkling sugar, to decorate
1. Preheat oven to 400°. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
