Harman International has completed its acquisition of Sound United, adding Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Marantz, Classé, Definitive Technology, Polk Audio, and Boston Acoustics to a lineup of audio brands that already included JBL, Arcam, Revel, and Mark Levinson. Sound United will operate as a standalone strategic business unit inside Harman’s Lifestyle division, preserving brand identities and engineering approaches while tapping Harman’s scale for manufacturing, distribution, and platforms. Dave Rogers, head of Harman’s lifestyle division, said “There’s going to be very little change.”
Distribution, support, supply chain, and sales teams will remain separate. Consolidation is not expected in the near term. Classé will stay focused on high-end two-channel hi-fi. Engineering will cross-pollinate across Shirakawa, Japan (where Classé amplifiers are built), Worthing, UK (home of B&W), and Northridge, California (Harman’s main campus).…
