IT WAS as if the gods didn’t want the inaugural Rockynats to happen. A pandemic, flooding rains, a lockdown still in effect just hours before scrutineering… we should have expected an earthquake, too!
The first scheduled Rockynats was cancelled last year due to COVID, but, thanks to the organisers, entrants and the Central Queensland town of Rockhampton, its rescheduled debut over the 2021 Easter long weekend was a glorious event for so many reasons. It was a celebration of freedom and fast cars, with a spectacular street parade, a rare spot of legal street racing, and burnouts by the idyllic Fitzroy River.
