Measuring in at 6mm (or 5.99mm if you want to get pedantic), the Edge 70 can’t claim to be the absolute slimmest smartphone on the block: both the iPhone Air and Galaxy S25 Edge have it licked for outright skinniness. But you’ll be paying a whole lot less to slip this phone in your pocket. You’re also getting more storage as standard, and a much beefier battery. It definitely doesn’t feel like a cheap option, with an aluminium frame that’s cool to the touch and a micro-textured nylon material on the rear panel that’s great for grip. The Oura is the OG of the smart ring world – the Lord of the Rings, if you will – and with this fourth iteration there’s now a ceramic version (£499), but it’s the standard silver one I wore for this review. It looks a bit cheap, to be honest, so if I had the choice again I’d opt for something different. There is an impressive array of sizes to choose from and Oura will post out a ring-sizing kit for free, but it’s still a relatively chunky unit regardless. And it comes with its own bespoke charging stand, so you’ll have to take that away with you if travelling for more than a few days. Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser What’s the story? The Velvetiser claims to be able to make barista-grade hot and cold drinking chocolate. Its secret? A vortex effect generated through inner-pod ridges and a custom whisk that folds chocolate into the milk with a turn of the dial. Inside the box you’ll find the machine, a Podcup (for hot chocolate), a Podglass (for cold) and 10 single servings of different recipes. Is it any good? Landing a job at DJI was serendipitous. I grew up in Stuttgart. After I graduated I went to Hong Kong and had my first job there, but the corporate business environment wasn’t fulfilling. With wearables now smarter than a lab’s worth of sports scientists, it’s easy to feel bombarded with data. Ditching the screen is one way to avoid that – at least until you open a companion app – and while Whoop set the standard, its subscription model (see p53) isn’t for everyone. The third generation of the Apple Watch Ultra takes the same formula as the two before and adds a few new ingredients. But as with the Ultra 2 a couple of years ago, it’s not enough to make an upgrade worthwhile – from the old model, or even from a standard Apple Watch Series 9, 10 or 11. Samsung’s handsome pad is designed to be a jack of all trades, seemingly aimed at students who like to cram the occasional PUBG frag-fest or TV marathon between lectures. As the priciest model in this test, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE drifts into premium pricing territory – but in its defence, it does pack the highest-resolution cameras, an included S Pen stylus and Android 16, the very latest version of Google’s OS (over which Samsung’s own UI flourishes have been bolted). Not surprisingly given its size, it still doesn’t have the heft of a full-scale Echo, but this Dot is more than good enough for bedside table or kitchen listening.
