The author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings took time to write to eight-year-old Christopher Howard in 1961. Howard, now 71, from Wye, Kent, kept the letter in his keepsakes’ box for six decades before deciding to sell it. A spokesperson for Hanson Ross auctioneers said it was a “wonderful find”. The new bilateral protocol, which opens the Vietnamese market to South African oranges, is good news ahead of the 2024 citrus export season that ramps up next month, according to Citrus Growers’ Association of Southern Africa (CGA).
