The roll of dice, the clack of poker chips, and the ruffle of cards – all sensations we live for. We are drawn to the feel, and sound, of our games. But many of us, at the heights of the pandemic lost our ability to gather and revel in the physicality of the hobby. Playing online wasn’t new, but for the first time we had to move online. Board Game Arena, Tabletop Simulator, and a plethora of other websites became our tables. For RPGs, we saw the accelerated rise of Virtual Tabletop (VTT) programmes, like Roll20 or Foundry, which let you create and digitise every element, from maps, to music, to dice rolls.
