Titanic Letter Sells
It seems that not a month goes by without there being another news story linked to the ill-fated ocean liner Titanic, despite it now being 113 years since it tragically hit an iceberg and sank, killing over 1,500 of its 2,200 passengers and crew.
However, the fascination with the Titanic continues, with a letter written by one of the passengers from on board the ship recently fetching £300,000 (around €356,447). The letter from Colonel Archibald Gracie was written from cabin C51 on April 10, 1912, the day he boarded the Titanic in Southampton. It was posted when the ship dropped anchor at Queenstown (now Cobh) in Cork on April 11, with a London postmark dated April 12, 1912.
