When Phil Taylor, coordinator of the New Plymouth MenzShed, set up a woodwork competition for members, Tony won gold.
“Phil gave us all a big chunk of wood and said, ‘Right, guys, make anything – something small, something nice, something that we could sell at the end as a fundraiser,’” Tony says. First, second, and third placings for the anonymous, numbered entries were decided by a secret ballot.
Tony made three boxes and sold them to members. He also won $50 for first place at the end-of-year barbecue attended by members and their partners. To make the boxes, one of which he gave Petro, he used a template and followed a ‘How to’ video on YouTube: Building the Leaf Box (youtube.com/watch?v=dU16gbhZxSE).
A lot of cutting, glueing, clamping, and sanding goes…
