When Madhur Jaffrey was growing up in Delhi, India, she wanted to be an actress. She caught the acting bug at age 5, when she played a mouse in a school play, and later grew up to star in theater, on television, and in movies.
But Jaffrey also had a love for cooking. When she was an adult, she moved to London, UK, and cooked Indian dishes as a way to feel less homesick.
