As summer gets into full swing, it’s time for more exuberant blooms to feature in our garden and our quilt. Native to South Africa, the Gerbera is part of the daisy family and is, therefore, also known as an African or a Transvaal daisy. In addition, other names for this flower include the Hilton daisy and the Barberton daisy. Gerberas are available in various hues, such as white, red, orange, yellow, pink, lilac and purple. Blue is the only colour in which Gerberas are not present in their natural form. These colours are often rich and vibrant but can also include softer tones, as in our block this month.
