BEHIND THE QUILT FROM WALL TO TABLE “We loved making this fun Christmas quilt. When starting the design we knew we wanted to incorporate the twisted border and we also wanted Christmas trees. Everything flowed from that. We didn’t want to make the quilt too big as we like to hang our Christmas quilts for maximum effect. BEHIND THE QUILT SEW FESTIVE! “Having some seasonal soft furnishings that you can bring out at Christmas time certainly helps me get in the festive mood. So, I’ve created this depiction of a Christmas door wreath cushion to cheer up my sofa in December. The wreath even features a fat robin who has stopped for a rest and a bite of those juicy berries! This is not the first Christmas garland I have designed, but my previous attempts used needle-turn appliqué for both the holly and ivy leaves, which are quite challenging shapes for this technique. For a less stressful experience, I decided to use wool felt for these very tricky leaves. The decorative running stitch really adds to the design and makes these super speedy to stitch. I’ve saved…

BEHIND THE QUILT LET YOUR FPP SKILLS SHINE! “There are a lot of individual blocks to foundation paper piece in this quilt top, but the FPPing is quick and simple for each block. It is also repetitive, so you can get yourself into a routine with it and get it done relatively quickly. I have given suggested measurements for cutting your pieces for the FPP, but a confident FPPer may find that they can cut the pieces smaller than I have suggested and save some fabric. As always, I suggest that you make a test block first and see what sized pieces work best for you. Although I have used Christmas fabrics in this quilt, you wouldn’t necessarily pick it out as a Christmas quilt – for me, it is…
