Our 2023 survey showed that little has changed in terms of fears, with cancer still coming out as the top health concern, followed by (in order): stroke, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, arthritis and rheumatism, going deaf or blind, and HIV/AIDS – perhaps the latter now being less of a concern as back in the early 1990s. Due to the media coverage of AIDS in the 80s, this disease would have no doubt been in people’s minds. (The rate of death from AIDS in 1991 was 844.
