After 60 years of production, there’s still just one generation of 911 that’s best for each enthusiast. For me, that honour clearly rides with the 997.2, particularly the C2S.
It’s the last generation of Carrera produced while Porsche was still a family-owned business, and its purity shines brighter than its paint. The car exemplifies the essence of the 911, from its small body design with felt rear engine bias, to its heavenly hydraulic steering and analogue dynamics.
At the same time, it features the more modern elements that are desirable. The 385hp represents a Goldilocks plateau of usable power, allowing the car to be interactively and enthusiastically driven on public roads, while easily keeping pace with performance vehicles that are a decade newer.
