With the band’s latest release marking a return to unashamedly reckless, crunching rock ’n’ roll, The Black Keys have offered up a hefty dose of riffing for us guitarists. Here we’re looking at the opening pentatonic riff from lead single Lo/Hi.
There are two two-bar phrases you’ll need to learn in the intro of the song, but be sure to listen carefully – these two parts are almost identical, differing in just one note. The opening line starts with a run through of G, A, C, D, E and G notes, before rounding off on A, G, A, G, C and A – all of which are found in the A minor pentatonic scale. Then the first repeat begins with the same five notes but this time heads back down…
