Booker T & The MGs recorded their first songs in spring 1962, before they had even named their new, interracial band. When “Green Onions” became a massive hit, peaking at No 3 in the States, they quickly assembled an album of mostly covers by Ray Charles, The Isley Brothers and Dave “Baby” Cortez, but the originals truly shine on their debut, especially the inverted “Mo’ Onions” and the bluesy “Behave Yourself”. 8/10
