In the corner is a relatively unassuming clothing rack where heavy cotton garment bags hold archival treasures that would make any fashion aficionado's pulse quicken. Erik Yvon sees the world in bright colour. The Mauritius-born, Melbourne-based designer, who's shown twice at Australian fashion week, is known for his visually impactful designs that balance a forward-thinking creativity with an appreciation for his heritage. This is the reason he won Toblerone's Never Square Designer Award last year, after reimagining the famed triangle shape in bold print informed by African art. In October 2023, for 27 days, if you looked for Rose Byrne you would have found her in Montauk on the set of If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. Legs, as Byrne and director Mary Bronstein took to calling the film, is a comedy so dark its moments of levity appear through chiaroscuro: a handbrake turn into the absurd whenever things become too bleak. Working alongside Australian photographer Darren McDonald, fashion director Kaila Matthews pulled together a series of looks designed to reinforce homegrown actor Rose Byrne's inescapable style and presence for her first Vogue Australia cover since July 2010. “The looks feel modern and show how to work colour, texture and a little bit of skin into a transeasonal wardrobe,” Matthews says of her vision behind the feature. Philippe Delhotal, creative director of horology at Hermès, is not joking when he says the maison has a rather “elastic” take on time. Though it must be said, jokes are welcome at Hermès. As Delhotal points out, it has long been a signature of the house to be irreverent. In keeping with this spirit, at Watches and Wonders earlier this year Hermès unveiled the Maillon Libre brooch watch – a bejewelled timepiece that can be worn pinned to a lapel or perhaps a sleeve.
