So much so that the magazines that featured it made their way to Aberdeen and into the eager hands of a young Russell Ritchie. Whether it’s slicing through old metalwork, trimming a repair panel or grinding off rust to find clean metal, it will always prove useful. Budget for around £30 or more for a small angle grinder, which uses 115mm diameter grinding and cutting discs. If you need to complete major surgery and cut through large sections of bodywork, buy a larger angle grinder that takes 230mm diameter discs. These cost around £60. Back then there was no VolksWorld, no internet so no forums to talk all things VW, no calendars crammed full of air-cooled shows and no abundance of parts available at the click of a mouse.
