Oktoberfest was set up in a different way to many shows. Rather than the focus being the cars and vans it was more of a camping event aimed at the people who were in to VWs. It’s grown and grown and has settled in nicely to it’ new home at River Dart Country Park. The only real car show part of the event is the show ’n’ shine held on the Sunday afternoon and doesn’t follow the normal script with specific classes, but rather trophies for categories such as ‘Most Original Conversion’ or ‘Best Stickered Van’ or even ‘Best Speedbump Detector’. This year was nicknamed ‘Hooktoberfest’ with a pirate theme for the Friday and Saturday night fancy dress, with prizes for the best dressed family in the kid’s disco. There…

“There’s a world of difference between how this car and my old ’66 drives. Compared to my old Bug, this one drives like a Bentley. The beam raise has given it some suspension travel, so it actually drives like a Beetle that’s only been lowered on spindles. It is with great pleasure that we can now announce that last month’s cover star, Shaun Howe’s Kandy-coated ’62 Beetle, did indeed make the Top 12 in the 2016 House of Kolor Prestigious Painter Award. The announcement was made at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show in Las Vegas, USA, on November 6 and puts the man who wielded the spray gun, Andy ‘Spike’ Finch of Spike’s Vintage Restorations, in some eminent company in the world of custom painters. The Thomas family’s 1967 Devon The Thomas family, Ted, Liz, Grace and Luke, have owned their Split with a Devon interior for about three years and they use it at every opportunity for holidays. Lots of restorative work had been completed prior to their ownership, mostly body and paintwork, with Ted only having to carry out a little tidying here and there and some further mechanical refurbishment. Formula gone Richard Evans, Ashurst Wood Hi VolksWorld, I’m trying to help the son of the late former-F1 driver Bob Anderson to locate the Split Screen Single Cab in the pictures.The Pick-Up was registered on July 28 1959 according to the Records Office in Huntingdon. Sadly, Bob died in a motor-racing testing accident at Silverstone on August 14 1967 and it’s not known what happened to the truck after that. The car draws admiring looks, whether it’s being driven or parked up. Often, people can’t believe it’s a VW and I get waved at and pointed at by young kids and elderly people alike. I’ve never know a car like it for attracting people’s attention. Around the town it drives well and is comfortable. It absorbs the speed bumps with ease and I like the sprung seats. They’re really comfortable, not like today’s modern cars where it’s all foam-filled and unforgiving. You have to think when driving, as it’s not as quick pulling away as a modern car, but this doesn’t detract from the experience.
