Like almost everyone across the country on Saturday, March 5, I woke up to the absolutely shocking news that Shane Warne had suddenly passed away, aged just 52. It’s still almost impossible to believe that a life force like his has been extinguished so prematurely. While of course his cricketing achievements will remain unparalleled, my favourite Warnie memory will always be his 2007 appearance on Kath & Kim when he hilariously played a hopeless Shane Warne impersonator called Wayne! What a good sport. As soon as the tragic news filtered through, the whole WHO team assembled over the weekend to plan a 16-page special tribute to a sporting icon and devoted dad, which starts on page 4. When was the last time you were awe-struck? I spent five months last year in far north Queensland filming Troppo. The landscape is incredible. But the thing that I was awe-struck by was the rain and thunderstorms up there. The sky goes green, the thunder cracks and it’s all just completely epic. I loved it. What was the last book you read? The last book I read that blew me away was Crimson Lake by [Australian author] Candice Fox, which is what Troppo is based on. As soon as I read it I knew I wanted to play [disgraced detective] Ted Conkaffey, who’s on the hunt for a missing guy. It was an 18-month process to make that happen, so I’m just glad that the series is finally out there.…
