NEARLY 250 DIVERS from 38 countries contributed ideas for the Paralenz Dive Camera ($599), which captures high-definition video and 8-megapixel photos. ¶ The camera weighs 5.6 ounces, so it can easily attach to a mask strap. It logs the dive and the photos, so users know at which depth they shot which image (and can share that info with friends via an app). The Progressive Insurance Miami International Boat Show will make its third-year appearance on Virginia Key, with all-new boats on the docks and ready for sea trials, while the recently renamed Miami Yacht Show on Collins Avenue will have both new and brokerage yachts on display and open for tours. MIBS, which is produced by the National Marine Manufacturers Association, is enhancing its VIP experience and adding a sail and catamaran section. THE MCY 96 FALLS between the 4-year-old MCY 86 and 2-yearold MCY 105 in the Monte Carlo Yachts lineup. The MCY 86 provides a conventional two-deck flybridge general arrangement, and the MCY 105 is the brand’s flagship, raised-pilothouse model. The MCY 96 has its own formula: a raised pilothouse and main-deck owner’s stateroom with three or four more staterooms below, plus quarters for five or six crew in three cabins. ¶ The design — with a capital D — force behind these models is Nuvolari Lenard, the Venice-based creative studio of Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard. Little Sis The same day I tested the 93 off Atlantic City, New Jersey, I also got aboard the Viking 44 Open, a versatile express that Viking builds at its Mullica, New Jersey, facility for boats less than 52 feet long. The smaller boat went out in the same sloppy conditions as the 93 and handled well, with an impeccably dry ride. Resin d’Etre Viking resin-infuses all of its hulls, mainly for weight and strength considerations. All resins are tested in-house to ensure a high-quality chemical makeup. The first two layers on the 93’s hull are polyester resin, while the rest are vinylester. The result is a hull that runs smoothly and sturdily. CLASSIC CRAFT FOR THE AVID YACHTSMAN THE HUNT YACHTS HARRIER 36 was based on C. Raymond Hunt’s renowned deep-V hull form. Matched to optional 440 hp Yanmar diesels (370 hp diesels were standard), the hull made 36- plus knots in 3- to 4-footers on our test day back in 2002. Notable features: an electric Stidd helm seat and satin-finish cherry joinery, plus hydraulic rams that lift the bridge deck for engine access. WHEN YOU LOOK at the Sea Ray Fly 520’s convivial salon, cockpit and flybridge arrangements, it’s evident that on-the-water entertaining and enjoyment are this yacht’s mission. WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU BLEND A British builder, an Italian designer and a Dutch engineering firm? One heck of a collaboration known as the Fairline Targa 63 GTO. ¶ GTO usually means an open-style boat without an after bulkhead, while GT depicts a closed-style craft. Fairline brings both attributes together in this model, with an after bulkhead that has a glass door and window. When the door slides sideways and overlaps the window, the combination disappears into a subcompartment, thus creating an open yacht. ¶ Italian designer Alberto Mancini is responsible for the 63 GTO’s sweeping lines and interior spaces.
