You’ve worked hard for months to get ready for the horse show, and when you get there, all of that preparation in lessons, riding, and grooming is going to pay off. But before you head to the show, there’s one more thing, and it’s easy to overlook: Your horse’s paperwork! Most horse shows require some kind of paperwork to prove your horse is in good health and has all of his required vaccinations. If you had to cross state lines to get to the show, you need to bring even more paperwork with you. Since the saltwater cord grass the wild ponies graze on is very salty, they drink twice as much water as a normal horse would in order to stay hydrated. Because of this extreme diet, the ponies tend to be on the shorter side—12 to 13 hands—and have large, round bellies. However, ponies that go to new homes and begin eating a domesticated diet often grow in size and look leaner. “We have raised and bred the Chincoteague Ponies up to 14.2 hands, and some are 15.2 hands,” says Gale Park Frederick of the National Chincoteague Pony Association in Washington state. Camille Davis brought her copy of Young Rider along to Universal Studios and posed in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. We hope it was a magical trip! Lyric Johnson visited Aruba with her family and stumbled upon several blue horses downtown! The horses were crafted to showcase Aruba’s horse history. There are some rules you need to follow when you enter the warm-up ring so that everyone stays safe and has a productive ride. These include: Go in the direction of traffic if at all possible. By traveling in the same direction as other horses, it’s easier to keep an eye on everything that’s going on around you, and you will have fewer horses to dodge. Speed takes the rail. Any gait faster than a walk takes priority. You should never be walking for long periods of time in the warm-up ring. If you’re done riding, leave the ring. Pass left shoulder to left shoulder. You don’t want to spook your horse by making him think a horse is coming for him head-on! If your horse is acting silly, leave…
