As I write this, just a week before Christmas, it’s a wonderfully frantic time in the office as we sign off magazines and race to meet deadlines, all in the hope of enjoying a well-deserved rest over the festive period. Fingers are firmly crossed for a dry(ish) spell so we can enjoy those fabulous Christmas walks, complete with festive cheer and plenty of familiar faces from the daily dog walk. The Pet Advertising Advisory Group (PAAG) warns of the dangers posed by smugglers when buying pets online, with more than 400 adverts found to include red flags. PAAG has introduced a set of advertising standards, allowing websites to register and giving potential adopters greater assurance of pet welfare. PDSA, the vet charity, is urging pet owners to brush up on pet first aid, as new figures reveal widespread gaps in emergency knowledge. Carole Ann “Caz” Chambers, of Chambers Photography in Market Drayton, was recently shortlisted for the British Photography Awards 2025, where she won Gold, Silver and Bronze across dog and equine categories at The Training Barn Awards. Caz’s equine portrait Noble Companion was the eventual winner of the Fine Art category, though she is known across Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire for her work with dogs and horses.
