A centuries-old brick house in the heart of London is the subject of the project by the Archi-Tectonics studio. Starting from the historic character of the ancient two-story home, the practice developed the London Solar Townhouse, an ideal prototype of an urban residence in an area with a high population density. Starting from modernist ergonomic criteria, the studio has doubled the original size of the house – which now boasts over 200 square meters of floor space – while leaving intact the original structure, the core from which an extension of the roof develops that wraps around an additional floor and other extensions. She is Kim Mupangilaï, a Belgian-Congolese interior designer, based in New York, where she teaches at the Parsons School of Design. He is Misha Kahn, from Duluth, Minnesota, an art designer and sculptor with a degree from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence and a studio in the Big Apple. THE IDEA GREW OUT OF A REQUEST FROM GILDA, who called me a few months ago telling me that she’d had a meeting with the director of the ITA (Italian Trade Agency), Erica Di Giovancarlo, who had been in Manhattan for just over a year. IN THE WINEMAKING REGION OF TOKAJ-HEGYALJA in Hungary, listed as world heritage by UNESCO, the Sauska Tokaj Winery embodies a family tradition of excellence and translates it into a tool of enhancement and appeal in the territory, for lovers of fine wine and striking landscapes kept intact over time. THE CUPRA BRAND, founded seven years ago in Barcelona, is a story of a definite success. Even in Italy. Thanks to the mix of design, technological innovation, sensible sporting qualities and a fair price. In addition, it also communicates a rebellious spirit, outside the box, with a Mediterranean flavor in the name of its most recent product, Terramar. What does Italian design learn from Africa? Abreham Brioschi, an Italian designer of Ethiopian origin, tells us about it. From his graduation project on he has been conducting research that takes him back to his homeland. There is one recommendation that any design professor obsessively makes to their students: work on your cultural background. Because there is always something curious, unique yet universal, in the landscapes of memory. There are values, attentions and obsessions. Biodiversity, climate change, environmental health and migration are the perspectives through which the philosopher of evolution Telmo Pievani describes the exhibition “A journey into biodiversity. Eight forays on planet Earth” as part of the XXIV Triennale di Milano (running until 9 November). Created in collaboration with the University of Milano-Bicocca and the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC), the exhibition is divided into eight stations that expand the concept of the city as an organized community, interweaving the worlds of cephalopods, beavers and human beings. Giorgio Armani, with his team of architects, and SL Green collaborated with the New York architecture firm Cookfox for the design of the new building on Madison Avenue – 9,000 square meters laid out on twelve floors, with eight windows on the street – which includes the new Giorgio Armani and Armani/Casa, Armani/Ristorante boutiques and the prestigious Giorgio Armani Residences. Boffi|DePadova has recently opened its new flagship store in New York. With no less than 23 meters of windows on Madison Avenue and 30 meters on 29th Street, this is spread over four levels for a total of 1,829 square meters. After the historic Boffi Soho address on Greene Street, in 2019 the brand had expanded to also welcome De Padova, also on Greene Street, at number 56. Today, the two brands have also been joined by ADL, present in this large exhibition space. The Florim Flagship Store overlooks 5th Avenue, just a few blocks from the Empire State Building.
