MOST imported campervans of this size have a garage but few have a garage of this size! This is a’van designed for a very specific kind of customer – one that wants the biggest possible load area, probably for a motorbike but possibly for other sports gear or even business purposes. FRENCH manufacturer, Pilote, launched its Joa Camp brand for the 2022 season to compete in the budget sector with both campervans and low-profile motorhomes. Three years on, it is switching from Citroën to Fiat chassis, enhancing the specification and updating the cosmetics. Crucially, it says that its prices remain low but they are realistic figures, so you don’t have to find extra funds for essential packs and options. Even an awning is included as standard. The company also approached customers for feedback on what it should change, with British buyers being a key focus as the UK is one of Joa Camp’s largest markets. CONSORT is a renowned specialist in twoberth panel van conversions, with an emphasis on practical design borne out of real campervanning experience. ERIBA is a name best known for its iconic and petite pop-top caravans, which have been a regular sight on the roads of Europe since the 1960s. Its first-ever campervan only arrived in 2024, initially as the Eriba Car 600 (voted Best Fixed Bed Campervan 2025) and then a sister model, the 602. Both campervans were launched on the UK market at the NEC in October and deliveries here are expected from the spring. The Eriba Car 602 shares its styling and base vehicle with the 600 model but, while the latter has a typically continental rear transverse double bed, the 602 goes for a more British style of layout, with an end lounge. “THEY’RE all the same!” – it’s a common cry when readers are looking at the many, many, many (enough manys?) different (or not so different) VW camper conversions on the market. Of course, we’re talking about side kitchen layouts and, once you’ve seen a few, you’ll start to separate the good from the, err, not so good. We’d always recommend you start with wellknown brands that have a recognised history in this market and firms that type approve their conversions. Look for top-quality roofs, such as Reimo and SCA, and renowned components. Seating systems are, perhaps, the biggest worry– have they been installed correctly, to the manufacturer’s specification? A POP-TOP roof on a coachbuilt motorhome? Nobody does, that, surely? Well, yes, Auto-Trail does, with such an option being added to the Excel range for the 2025 season. AS soon as the classic Land Rover went out of production in 2016, prices skyrocketed – only a handful of vehicles have ever attracted such a devoted following. After a continuous run of 67 years, the Series and Defender models had been forced off sale by legislation with which they could no longer comply. Over two million vehicles had been built, not just in the Landie’s Solihull home but around the world – in Australia, Brazil, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey and Zimbabwe. GLOBE-TRAVELLER only arrived in the UK for the 2023 season, winning our Campervan of the Year title the very first time it exhibited at the NEC. It has since expanded its previously Fiat/Peugeot-based range to include a couple of VW Crafter-based luxury campervans in the Falcon range and now, for 2025, there’s a third model in that line-up – and the first Globe-Traveller to offer a rear lounge. FOR the last couple of seasons, Pilote has offered its UK-bound motorhomes in either Expression trim, which can be tailored to your spec with a variety of extras and packs, or as an Évidence with a much higher spec but no options – a fixed equipment level at an advantageous price. So successful have sales of the Évidence been that the same approach is now being offered on three out of Pilote’s seven campervan models, the largest of which being this V630J. This, of course, is the extra-long (6.36m) Fiat Ducato but the standard price here includes the latest eight-speed automatic transmission and the Eco Pack (with start/stop). IF there was a trend at last September’s Caravan Salon it was four-wheel drive campervans, which seem to now feature not just from specialist brands but many of the mainstream makers, too. One of the newcomers in this offroad arena was Weinsberg with its new Mercedes Sprinter-based X-Pedition. It certainly looks the part with its 85mm suspension lift and chunky 245/75 R 16 allterrain tyres and it comes with the 190hp motor and nine-speed automatic transmission as standard, along with stop/start, Crosswind Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Hill Start Assist and Active Brake Assist.
